When pilots can’t rely on radio, they look to airport ground signals for direction. The signal that tells an aircraft to move on the ground, i.e., to taxi, is flashing green. It communicates “cleared to taxi” so you can proceed along the taxiways to the runway or gate under control tower guidance. The other signals have different meanings: steady red means stop, flashing white means return to your starting point, and alternating red and green means exercise extreme caution. A steady green is used for takeoff or landing clearance in the appropriate context, not taxi.
